2002-2003 ADVENTURES IN ART PROJECTS

This project is based on the ancient art of sacred totems produced by the Australian Aboriginal people. Using oil and pastels and acrylic paint on Artagain paper, students create their own “Dreamtime “animal.
Matisse
Paper Cur Portrait – Artist: Zen
DelRio
Inspired by the later artwork of Henri Matisse, the students create portraits by cutting forms from construction paper and pasting them onto a contrasting background paper.
Waves of Hokusai
– Artist: Mary DeHaven

Students learn about the Japanese artist Hokusai and the techniques he used to create “The Great Wave at Kanagawa” from his “36 Views of Mt. Fuji.” Using watercolors and markers the children recreate the movement of water as depicted in the ancient Japanese woodblock prints.

Using watercolor pencils, markers and sandpaper, students create their own landscape art based on the photographic work of Ansel Adams.
Zodiac Prints – Artist: Marianne Coble
Students learn about the history and artwork of celestial charts and then recreate their own star map using a printing process combined with oil pastels, watercolors and markers.
