Miro, On His Way Home, Takes A Shortcut Through A Daliscape

Artist Marianne Coble

Inspired by surreal artist Salvador Dali and Joan Miro, students will be introduced into the art movement of Surrealism and create a landscape using tempera paint, oil pastels, and Crayola Model Magic modeling compound.

 

 

Stick With Herring

 

Artist Freddie Benson

Inspired by “subway” artist Keith Herring, students will be introduced into contemporary art.  Students will create figures in “motion” using plastic sheets called cells, sharpies and acrylic paint.

 

 

Japonisme

Artist Nancy Young

Inspired by a French journalist to describe the craze for all things Japanese. Students will be introduced to artists Vincent Van Gogh, Katsushika Hokusai, and Ando Hiroshige and the fascination of Japanese art.  Students will use “rice” paper, colored pencils, sharpies, and acrylic paints to create their own Japanese artwork.

 

 

Poetry of Iron

Artist Carrie Powers

Inspired by revolutionary sculptor, Julio Gonzalez, who was the first artist to use iron for the visual purpose of fine art.  Students will explore the use of three-dimensional space using wire and foil to create their own abstract art.

 

 

 

 

Heads Up, Self Portraits in Clay

Inspired by the human figure as an art form.  Students will create clay sculptures using air dry clay and explore the feelings and emotions that are displayed in the human face.  They will poke, push, pinch, and pull the clay to create their own portraits.
